Thanks for sharing this Phyllis. I am wondering what it means that the work is in ceramic - the relationship between medium and subject.

Although I am not an Artist, the Arts are crucial to my life. I think that's part of what this is all about - arts and the living world?

MY PHOTOS - because I am a lover of art rather than an artist, I am using this space to show art which comes into my life. Another way of curating, perhaps.

My profile portrait shows me and my son Henry apparently pursued by Modernism [as represented by Joel Shapiro] at the Noguchi Sculpture Garden in Houston.

Previously I showed a caricature of myself drawn by a college friend a lot of years ago. Artists have always been there, and here, for me.
And before that, I showed a photo of Grandme Me talking with my granddaughter Michelle about Simone de Beauvoir - Second Sex, Third Generation.

The Century So Far: Visual Art

The Toronto Star has published a special focus piece on their website (I
checked, it’s not in print), called “The Century So Far: Visual Art”.

Here’s the intro:
To mark the passing of the first decade of the new millennium, we’ve asked
our team of journalists to decide on the 10 most important works in various
genres over the past 10 years. Our criteria were straightforward: Did the
creation stand alone as a timeless work of art? Did it start an artistic
trend or exemplify a movement? Was it po… Continue

Hi Phyllis,
select a book - poetry or inspirational books are often the best (in Iran the Sufi poets Hafiz or Rumi are the most popular) - close your eyes and ask for inspiration or a question, with a light heart...open a page, point to a line or verse and that is your answer ...read aloud and discuss what it might mean....enjoy!
The installation i developed based on this (The Bibliomancer's Dream) had 6000 books and over 40,000 people got to try this playful and sometimes profound practice , which was a thrill ..
the more religious and superstitious take it rather too seriously one way or the other, but i mainly have fun with it and have found it to be an extremely direct way to get guidance and inspiration for creative ideas and directions as an artist...
hope this helps

I will put some cat/bird/images of my art work as soon as I learned to upload the program. In the meanwhile we are definitely into fall weather. Now I don't whether to wear a jacket over my sweater or wear just a sweater. Nice blog by the way.

Hi Phyllis,

Thanks for your message - it's nice to hear from someone so soon after joining! I'm glad that you enjoyed our Toronto report, we had a really interesting time there - it's a very dynamic place.

I have just been checking out the Island Institute's website, which I was interested to find on your blog.
