So some time on Saturday the 18th of July 2009 someone collected all the hands and took them. They also turned over the rock on which I had written the number 86, the same number of turbines placed on Wolfe Island. I am very curious to know who to...

Next step in the development of this video. Seems a bit jerky with the water movement. I am considering the contextual clues that I can leave. There are not many yet. Do there need to be more?

So I am in the studio today working further on the hands video. I really liked the way it looked like the hands could be piling up the stones. My friend Terry pointed this out and I want to work further with this look by purposely building up the ...

Hi Caffyn, I just read your project on Waking the Ecological Self. The term "psychic numbing" is new to me and I think very appropriate to what is happening to people in terms of developing a 'real' response to ecological issues today. I feel it....

What else do you want us to know?
I am interested in doing art as research towards discovering what the ecological citizen might look like. Currently I am half way through my masters in Environmental Studies at Queen's University. I am making art as a way of opening up ideas that are responsive to my sense of a kind of ecological citizenship. Largely I see ecological citizenship as an invention that seeps into the consciousness of the individual and the collective by way of a reciprocal relationship between the physical and the metaphysical. One invents the other. As we re-shape the way we think about our earth we re-shape the way we re-build the world.

Major conceptual concerns for this project, very briefly, include how does one show or performs their personal ecological politics, what is happening with inter, trans and multi-disciplinary work in the context of environmental concerns and r… Continue

This Neck of the Woods international Artist Residence by Yvette Poorter

I am getting my own tree in the Knock on Woods Forest which is part of the kit for a roving international artist residency I participated in in September 2008. It was a one day residency. I spent the day in the tent/cabin which was set up behind the Artel artist residence in Kingston. I went as Madame E and welcomed visitors. We sat in the cool shade of the cabin and chatted, ate gingersnaps and drank tea. It was such a calming lovely thing to do. It reminded me of the pleasure of camping even t… Continue
