Next month will be one year since my mom's transition.
I'm bombarded by all the commercials asking what I'm doing for Mother's Day or what I should do. I was just going to sit on the couch cry. This is the first Mother's Day in my life without my mom. She was a poet. I was asked if I would write something for Mother's Day & that became how I would process my grief. The fonts may not show the title written down the side acrostically but trust me, that's how I roll:
Happy Mothers’ Days
H ow many species on Earth are indebted to a precious mother
for their birth? I must be so bold as to suggest.., most. I toast
A ll women for being the chosen gender to render unto the
rest of us the precious Gift of Life. Self-sacrificing mothers,
P utting the needs of their families first, literally caring for
us from womb to tomb & back again to the Universal Womb.
P lease make room on Mothers’ Days, in your heart to acknow-
ledge her hard work & multi-tasking. I’m asking just how much
Y ou’d pay an outsider to perform the myriad of chores mothers
do each & everyday? When hope seems to be gone, determined
M others find ways to get things done. That’s Mother Nature in
our mothers’ nature, faith in her Creator & her ability to restore
O rder out of chaos & disarray. Honor her on this & every day!
Before you decide to criticize her, choose to walk in her shoes.
T he majority of our mommies kissed our ouwies & boo-boos.
Somehow they knew, “things will get better.” They did & we do.
H ave you seen a mom’s face drained of hope, suddenly project
a “state of grace” to fortify a child’s faith? They have to, to cope
E ven though things seem to sink as low as they can go. God bless
the Goddesses for doing the best they can with what they have &
R emember them for never giving up on their young. Mom shows
up for her kids when she may have given up on herself long ago.
S he does this, we know, for she expresses the greatest gift in & of
the Universe. That being of Love. Lord, help her love herself, first!
D evoted to the point of being depleted, what she needs are more
than gestures to articulate how much we need, care for, appreciate
A nd cherish “Moms”. Many males in the Natural world merely sire
their young & are gone. Mothers bear them & prepare them for the
Y ears to come. Their time has already come to be honored any day
of the year. Dear mommies around this & many other worlds, just as
S o with potential moms in little girls, I propose an idea that’s kinda’
wild. May we honor ALL females whether or not they have yet or
could ever bear a child.

I feel so thankful to all the people who made the trip down to D.C. and filled the mall with their support. That presence means a lot.
If you can get a copy, I wonder if you can add your poetry reading to this or the 'Democracy' site?
*************Your comment on my page***************
I was at the Richmond Auditorium for a buffet breakfast & jumbo-tron broadcast of the event. I was filmed reciting the acrostic piece after the program but don't like my performance. I like the energy of the event & personal history. My family has performed at this auditorium back in the '60s for Jackie Robinson, Dick Gregory, Adam Clayton Powell, NAACP events, etc.
We sang for Martin Luther King at the Cow Palace in San Francisco & I got to shake his son's hand when he came back to Richmond on a national tour a couple of years ago. That event was also at the Richmond Auditorium. I gave him two books of my poetry & advocated for the power of healing arts. He dug!
I'm going to steal the line below from the local cinema owner who opened her theatre to free big screen viewing of yesterday's inauguration. This was the last line of her update letter of yesterday's event- two SRO theatres-, and list of upcoming films, of course-
'Nothing left to do but smile, smile, smile. See you soon.'
I was on my way to watch the inauguration there, but because of the huge 18" snowfall got stuck behind snowplows and slow traffic. Had my portable tv with me, so pulled over and watched it in my car! It was beautiful and great- the event and where I stopped to watch it.

Dwayne,
Your post would be suitable for the site below, as well. It's a call for people to comment on where they were when Obama was elected and other commentary regarding his election.:

I don't know how often you check in here. I often miss many things posted here, myself. I just looked at your page and saw your post from this past June. I want to let you know it's a very powerful and moving expression you are sharing. Three rainbows...Awesome... I'm finally convinced, at this point, that the earth and all the physical and non-physical forces that make up our 'reality' is one continuous whole. So, I believe, also, that those rainbows were connected to the spirits of your family.

Three Rainbows
The day we laid my mother to rest was the worst & also the best
in the present journey of my soul. Total strength to loss of control.
Having you all helped me from going under, falling over. Staying
sober so I can continue doing what I do in the community. You all
Represent what the Creator meant by Humanity. At my mother’s
event, I didn’t see the difference between friends & family. Very
Early in the ‘90s, my brothers David & Danny were buried in the
same Chapel of the Chimes cemetery in Hayward. Not just your
Everyday miracle occurred. Nature did something wayward. There
were three rainbows in the sky on a sunny day! My friend Tom
Reminded me why. “She’s with them”. Mother & brothers’ colors glowin’, witnessin’ the love we share. So many of you, I wasn’t
Aware of how she impacted your lives. I swear Heaven smiled.
While not all of you could attend physically, you were with me
In Spirit which helped me through this ordeal immeasurably. I’ve
kept your emails & shall print & read them to Mom “in the wind”.
No one knows when we’ll lose loved ones. I hope everyone has
someone who cares as much as just one of you. I lost my strength
But the Sisters of Islam were strong & my sista’, Donita, was too.
I knew it was just.., a matter of time before I’d be drunk or high. I
Owe you all so much! Some flowers from Tisha were discovered
the next day. They didn’t make it to the “Garden of Mercy” area
Where my momma lays but as a courtesy, Cindy Unruh is taking
them up & laying them on her grave. I saw so many religions there
Sharing a spirit of One love shining through.., I believe those three
rainbows up above were my two brothers & mother thanking all of
You…

When I created, "hyp-hop-notherapy" (self-empowering acrostics) I took the monicker, "Tupoc Chopra". Did you see my piece, "Metaphysician Heal Thyself"?
Thank you for sharing that writing on my page! Your thoughts are so amazingly true and beautiful.
' I Realize the unified intelligence in every living thing.'
'I tenderly tend a flock Of Divine purposes & services with no resistance to but advocacy For the glory of my existence. I abide by the Law of Intention & Desire. I
Sire a symphony of events that conspire to confirm the
Universe is warmed by my fire as is the satisfaction of my passions. Compassionately, I embrace the Law of Detachment by gaining Confidence in my plan to excel & extracting my self-limiting Ego out of the details. From my hands to the Universal Womb, Soon enough the stuff unformed will conform to Divine will & will Still my beating heart in harmony with the Law of Dharma & my quest'..
Yeah, it's a little hard to manage text. But, your thoughts are so well spoken and resonant. They come through.
thanks for your message of solidarity in the Scribble Room. I've been busy gathering info and opinions re treatments and alternative support
Yes i got your acrostic rap... its very inspiring ..as is your story of survival ..but i think it is more than that ....maybe your refusal to give in to anything that tries to dampen your spirit.
i applaud you for that and your work!
all best
Jan
