As Jan has trouble accessing the network I'm going to post a link to the latest Art for Humanity Newsletter here. THanks for sharing this with us Jan. http://www.afh.org.za/newsletter/dec-2007.pdf

Thank you for your reply;
The poem of coarse is so powerful.
Who could not be moved by such clear and simple staments.
I must commend you and the author for such courage bringing these truths to light.
Wonderful that you were connected to the pigeons.
There are several schools now working with troubled teens that are useing pigeons as part of the healing process.
You may wish to look into something like that.
I think I could find contact information for you if you were interested in discussing that type of program with the people that are running them.
I don't know how you raise funds for your work but an idea crossed my mind that you could connect with the pigeon races in your country to hold a race as a fund raiser.
Lots of pigeon clubs do this for worthy causes.
Sometimes tens of thousands can be raised.
It would not be hard to put you intouch with fanciers over there as I have connected several times with racing clubs in South Africa assisting in tracking lost or found racing birds..
If I can be of any help please don't hesitate to say so.
Hi Jan
I do like to believe that what I do does make some contribution although most of the time I'm not sure it will.
The issues facing humanity huge as they are have probably been with us from the earliest of times, in one form or another.
Like the slow drip of water each artists voice one drop at a time.
Endurance is the key to this. That's another one of those things I learned from the pigeons.
One wing beat, one heart beat at a time make the longest journey to Home.
Water can wear away the hardest of stone, given time can dissolve a whole mountain of ignorance, war, violence, greed or anything else you can think of.
I think you are on the right track. Checked out your website.
A formidable task and yet collecting all the drops, the multitude of creative people brought together become the raging river.
And rivers Jan, cut fast canyons into the landscape of issues.
Maybe too looking back at heritage we should not encourage Been there done that.
IM working on resurrections of older forgotten arts.
Finding many things tossed aside that are of real importance today (in my view) perhaps even more than they were during the time of there heyday.
When I was young almost all boys kept pigeons.
Today there are few and the average age of pigeon keepers has reached 67 or so.
Pigeon keeping is now an art that is disappearing in the wake of techno stuff.
IM trying to remember my boyhood.
There was not the violence there seems today with young men.
We were together tied to nature and a nurturing respect for living things.
We used to help each other. Collaborate building lofts catching pigeons sharing stories.
It is my believe that boys should be encouraged to keep doves.
They do make for peaceful hearts and calm thoughts as well as gentile hands.
Much good fortune with your work.
Where can I see some of the poems you help bring together for your projects?

The million dollar pigeon race is held in South Africa I believe.
are there pigeons in your city?
Pigeons are everywhere They unite artists but none of them are aware that they do.
Be fun to connect with you.
